Short answer
Custom software is a system built when your workflow is not covered by off-the-shelf products or when its rules, roles and data are specific to you. We first turn the critical workflows into a working first release, then extend it in stages.
When custom software makes sense
Consider a custom system when standard tools cannot support critical workflows, permissions or integrations. We first check whether configuration or a smaller integration can meet the need.
From scope to a working release
We identify users, business rules, data sources and acceptance criteria. The first release focuses on a complete core workflow rather than a long feature list. Deliverables and ownership are defined in the proposal.
Delivery and ongoing operation
Scope may include workflow design, technical architecture, tested software and handover documentation. Hosting, monitoring, maintenance and third-party licences are discussed explicitly.
Planning effort and cost
Integration maturity, data migration, access control and testing affect effort. Share your current workflow and the three most important problems to start an assessment. We do not promise a fixed price or schedule before understanding scope.
When custom software is not needed
If your process is standard and a ready-made product covers most of your requirements through configuration, custom software is an unnecessary cost. Even for a small need, the automation and integration features of existing tools should be tried first. In such cases SaaS selection and integration consulting is a better starting point.
How we work
Scope and acceptance criteria are written down first. Then the screen flows and technical architecture of the first release are designed. Development moves in short, reviewable steps and is tested at each one. Go-live, handover documents and a plan for the next phase are the last step.
Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions we hear most often when companies consider custom software.
When should I choose custom software over an off-the-shelf product?
If a ready-made product covers most of your needs and the gap can be closed through configuration, it is usually faster and cheaper. Custom software makes sense when no product supports your business rules, when people copy the same data between several systems by hand, or when the process is a competitive advantage. Our guide "Off-the-shelf or custom software?" walks through the comparison.
What do I need to prepare before we start?
You do not need screen designs or technical documents. A description of the workflow you want to solve, the tools you use today and the approximate number of users is enough for a first assessment. We define the scope together.
Do you build web and mobile applications together?
Yes. Depending on the need we build a web application, a portal or an iOS and Android mobile app. See our web and mobile app development page for details.
How do you set the price?
We do not have a fixed price list. Once the scope is clear we give a written quote based on the size and conditions of the work. The first conversation is free of charge.
